Much of my work originates from a meditation in which I imagined sitting opposite myself, breathing into one another, our breath tracing an infinite loop between us. Having spent much of my life searching for someone with whom I could feel completely one, I realised in that moment that I was already whole, that both myself and the other I had been looking for existed within me. Them grew from this understanding, exploring the relationship between the different selves we carry and the quiet completeness of their coexistence. When Tatjana chose this piece, she saw in it her relationship with Julia, a closeness and connection that gave the work another meaning I hadn’t originally imagined. I now see them in it too, and I find something beautiful in how an artwork can hold both the relationship we have with ourselves and the bonds we form with others.
